WHY PILATES?

Pilates is for everybody. You are not too old, too overweight, too stiff, too weak or too strong enough already! Pilates meets you where you are currently and will challenge you at any level.

The same exercises can be given to two people with entirely different goals and needs and will work them exactly where they need it.

Your goal may be to move without pain or limitation or to run faster and jump higher. To perform simple household chores or to excel at your chosen sport. Pilates can help you, in Joseph Pilates's words:

“Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness. Our interpretation of physical fitness is the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily, and satisfactorily performing our many and varied daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure.”

WHY WITH ME?

I love helping people to find this zest for life and get better at doing all the things they do. As a former osteopath, I have a good understanding of injuries and how debilitating and frustrating they can be. It is very rewarding to see clients move better, become stronger and more agile, whether they originally came to me with an injury or not.

I have been teaching for over fifteen years and hold one of the most respected certifications in the industry. I have a fully equipped studio and if a certain exercise is difficult for you on one piece of equipment we have lots of options where we can take you to make the changes your body needs on another.

About Pilates

Pilates is the life's work of Joseph Pilates. A German boxer who developed a system of exercises and equipment that he believed would bring the user to optimum health.

Your lessons will take place on multiple pieces of equipment in the studio, always with the goal of building the strength and flexibility to execute a series of exercises on the mat and reformer that will give you a full body workout. This way each lesson is built upon a tried and tested framework but is still tailored to the individual.

The foundational work can be adapted to accommodate various injuries or conditions. Once a strong foundation has been built the student can be progressively challenged through an ever more dynamic workout. Once a more efficient use of your muscles becomes habit you will stand taller and feel better every day.

Romana described Pilates as "Stretch, with strength and control."

Pilates will strengthen what is weak and challenge what is strong.
